Bilingual Education Proposal in Guatemala

The Bilingual Education Proposal in Guatemala was carried out by several public and private sector universities, in conjunction with international organizations and entrepreneurs, with the aim of improving the inclusion of the Xinca, Maya and Garífuna communities into the country's education system. The document, which was then submitted to the Public Ministry, was based on the "Opinion of the Population on Bilingual Education in Guatemala" study. The guidelines of the proposal were agreed upon during a colloquium in which, through working groups, several experts in the field analyzed the issues of five topics: educational coverage, teachers, parents, support materials, and methodology. As a result, a bilingual education system that included a national long-term education plan, a government educational program, and a departmental educational project was agreed on.
