Project to Strengthen Municipal Agrarian Management

The "Project to Strengthen Municipal Agrarian Management", carried out in the Polochic Valley region, arose from the need to provide an effective and participatory response to one of the country's largest agrarian conflicts. Within the framework of the project, cases ranging from having a minor to major impact were dealt with through alternative dispute resolution methods (Span. Medios Alternativos de Resolución de Conflictos, MARC). For those conflicts that occur within the neighborhoods, a Network of local mediators was created, who through mechanisms of community coexistence, are responsible for resolving possible discords. For the treatment of land conflicts between communities, the Municipal Agrarian Offices were formed, in which government officials, civil society and non-governmental organizations participate. These offices (Span. OMA) are the meeting point between the municipality and the communities. Finally, if the conflict is controversial and of high impact, this is the responsibility of the Inter-Institutional Committee or Agricultural Commission of the Polochic Region, which is also responsible for influencing the national economic and agricultural policies affecting the region.
