Techo Mexico

"Techo " (lit. Roof) arrived to Mexico in 2007 with the name "Un Techo para mi Pais" (lit. A Roof for my Country), while the project expanded throughout Latin America. The main purpose of this innovation is the development of precarious settlements in the country, the promotion of social action, in addition to the denunciation of the social exclusion faced by vulnerable populations. The project is carried out in three phases: during the first part, the area is evaluated; during the second part, citizens participate in the deliberation of different solutions to the problems faced by the community, especially in regards to infrastructure. This deliberative phase is carried out together with volunteers and is based on the results of the initial diagnosis. The third phase consists in the implementation of this agenda. Within the framework of this methodology and until 2017, in Mexico, 4,129 emergency homes have been built in 41 settlements throughout the country. In addition, this participatory innovation has implemented several education programs in which 3,081 children participate.
