National Consultation on Mexico?s New International Airport
The National Consultation on Mexico?s New International Airport was an initiative implemented by ?the then recently elected president- Andrés Manuel López Obrador and his team to allow citizens vote in favor or against the continuation of the construction of Texcoco?s new airport. 1,096,990 citizens participated in the consultation, who decided between the option of continuing with the construction of the Texcoco airport or refurbish the existing airports in Mexico City and Toluca through the installation of two new airfields in the air base of Santa Lucia. The initiative was conducted in the 32 states and it was a popular consultation open to all Mexican citizens above 18 years old.
