Proactive Community Policing Model
The Nicaraguan Police Model allows the police to have close links with the community. The objective of this citizen participation initiative is to provide a better service and reduce the criminal level of the country. It has a preventative, proactive and community character. It has involved about 100 000 people organized on a voluntary basis. It works in inter-institutional coordination with the state and local governments.
Institutional design
