Consultations of the Comprehensive Evaluation of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project

The Consultations of the Comprehensive Evaluation of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project were carried out by the Social Investment Fund for Emergencies in 15 communities across the country. Water and sanitation committees, non-governmental organizations, women's groups, municipal governments, regional governments, and indigenous councils and authorities were consulted. The purpose of the consultations was to gather the perceptions, experiences and preferences of those who benefit from water and sanitation services, in addition, the effectiveness of social intervention in the communities, the involvement of users in decision making; the cultural relevance of the project processes, community organization, among others. Based on the results of the consultations, the Nicaraguan government prepared a Plan for Indigenous and Afro-Nicaraguan Peoples (PPIA) that ensures access and participation of ethnic groups in project design, implementation and participatory planning.
