Directory of the State Health Services Administration (ASSE)
The Directory of the State Health Services Administration (ASSE) is the leading public health provider in Uruguay. In the context of the reform of the health sector from 2007, Law No. 18.161 was mandated to include the participation of workers and users. The functions of the board are to develop the health rights of its users, organize and manage health care services, seek efficiency and effectiveness through coordination with other public health service providers and between levels of care and to be part of and to contribute to the implementation of the NHIS, among others. The law also considers decentralizing the ASSE and establishing forms of participation that guarantee the participation of users and workers at the departmental and local levels in public health providers.
