Council for Gender Equality in Montevideo

The Council for Gender Equality in Montevideo is a space that was created from a civil society initiative within the elaboration of the "3rd Plan of Gender Equality of Montevideo". It was formalized by the City Hall in December 2014 by Resolution No. 5320/14. The Council is chaired by the Secretariat of Women of the City Hall of Montevideo, has a member for each political party in the departmental legislature, four municipal councilors and other representatives of the City Hall and fourteen representatives of civil society according to different themes. For its creation, one of the most important objectives was to be part of its creation, as well the implementation, follow-up and monitoring of the plans for equality. However, in general it is also a space for participation, dialogue, monitoring and articulation of public policies on gender and a bridge between the City Hall and civil society.
