Interinstitutional Commission on Gender Issues at the International Level

The Interinstitutional Commission on Gender Issues at the International Level was established in June 2004 to prepare the next periodic report of Uruguay to the Committee on the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). In 2005, it remained as the body responsible for the preparation, submission and reporting to international committees created by binding instruments signed by Uruguay, such as: the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Inter-American Committee to Prevent, Punish and Eradicate Violence against Women (Convention of Belem do Pará). The Commission operates under the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Institute of Women (INMUJERES). In addition to state representatives from the executive, legislative and judicial branches, it is comprised of various civil society organizations, women's organizations and feminists. In this way, the aim is to ensure citizen participation in the country reporting processes.
