Promoting gender equity and transparency at the municipal level

The project ?Promoting gender equity and transparency at the municipal level? was implemented in the municipalities of Arbieto and San Benito in the high valley of Cochabamba. Its objective was to promote the exercise of citizenship by women through actions generating processes of transparency in municipal management. It was structured around three components: 1) capacity building; 2) organizational strengthening by obtaining legal recognition from women's organizations; and 3) impacting municipal management. The leadership schools addressed women's organizations that were trained in citizens' rights and duties, mechanisms for participation in the public space, structuring of demands and instruments for organizational strengthening. The results of the process were agendas to make public information more transparent and promoting gender equity, which developed discussions with municipal authorities and projects that benefited women. As a result of the project, 5 women's organizations obtained their legal register and formed the Women's Organization of the Municipality of San Benito with a basis on community-based organizations.
