Integrated Program: Rural Poverty Reduction Project ? Maranhão
The Maranhão Integrated Program: Rural Poverty Reduction is an agreement between the World Bank and government of the state of Maranhão, in which the World Bank was responsible for lines of credit and investment in partnership with the state to reduce rural poverty. This goal was pursued through: empowerment of social agents in the rural environment, supervision of public investments carried out in the state, expansion of technical assistance to rural workers and funding of Community actions of investment in rural area. The methodology implemented was CDD (Community-Driven Development), based on participation, transparency, investment in local agents and extension of surveillance over public and private investments. All the planning, implementation and development of this project was conducted with participation of local social agents. They were enganged from in financing and direct investment in civil society for the implementation of policies, the assembly of councils of supervision, advice, technical improvement and strengthening of other democratic innovations of local dynamics as municipal councils of food security and rural development.
