Plebiscite on Brazil?s form and system of government

The plebiscite on Brazil?s form and system of government vote took place on April 21st, 1993. As part of Brazil?s democratization process, the Federal Constitution of 1988 determined the realization of a plebiscite to decide whether the country should have a republican or a monarchist regime, and if the system of government should be presidential or parliamentary. The majority of the voters were in favor of the republican regime (86.6%) and of the presidential system (69.2%). Thus, the country returned to the political structure it had from the proclamation of the Republic until the beginning of the dictatorship.
