Hackathon Innovate Brasilia
The Hackathon Innovate Brasilia took place from June 15-17, 2017. During this event, around 80 citizens (mostly students) identified problems in the areas of public safety, urban mobility and education, and designed proposals to solve these challenges together with the public administration. This participatory space had the participation of mentors from each thematic area, who advised the different groups of citizens. Within the framework of this democratic innovation, 15 solutions were devised, of which four were selected by a jury composed of public policy specialists, academics, and representatives of the organized civil society and the local government.
Institutional design
Formalization: is the innovation embedded in the constitution or legislation, in an administrative act, or not formalized at all?
Frequency: how often does the innovation take place: only once, sporadically, or is it permanent or regular?
Mode of Selection of Participants: is the innovation open to all participants, access is restricted to some kind of condition, or both methods apply?
Type of participants: those who participate are individual citizens, civil society organizations, private stakeholders or a combination of those?
Decisiveness: does the innovation takes binding, non-binding or no decision at all?
Co-governance: is there involvement of the government in the process or not?
