Municipal / Local Disability Committees

The Municipal / Local Disability Committees are the local bodies of deliberation, construction, monitoring and verification of the implementation of policies, strategies and programs that guarantee the social integration of people with disabilities. These Committees are part of the National Disability System together with the Departmental / District Disability Committees and the National Disability Council. The respective Mayor or Governor or his / her representative, the representatives of the Secretaries working on related issues, representatives of non-profit organizations of persons with disabilities must be part of the Municipal / Local Disability Committees (according to the different types of disability) and a representative of the legal persons that are in charge of their care. Although the Disability Law was created in 1997, it was not until 2007, when the National Disability System was established, that the creation of Disability Committees at the territorial level was indicated, in this case municipally and locally, and its regulation was developed in 2012.
