Municipal Plebiscite of Fantino
The Municipal Plebiscite of Fantino occurred on May 3, 2009, when the inhabitants of Fantino were asked to cast their vote in a public plebiscite for the approval of the Municipal Development Plan until 2013 (there is a distinction between 'Referendum' and ' Municipal Plebiscite 'in Law 176-07 which guides municipal policy). 98% of the votes were in favor of the development plan, with 19.84% of all registered voters participating. The plebiscite in Fantino took place the same day in which two other Referenda were celebrated in Cotuí and Maimón. Preparations and execution of the plebiscites received the support of the municipalities, the General Election Commission (Central Electoral Board) as well as the Canadian Embassy and its cooperation office.
