Strengthening Andean organizations for advocacy on food security policies

"Strengthening Andean organizations for advocacy on food security policies" is a project carried out by the International Organization CARE with funding from the European Union and in collaboration with the Union of Peasant and Indigenous Organizations of Cotacachi -(UNORCAC) in the province of Imbabura-Cotacachi. The purpose of this initiative is to contribute to increase the participation of local social organizations in the processes of decision making regarding food security and nutrition. This is done by strengthening the capacities of poor and indigenous farmers' organizations, with emphasis on women's organizations at the subnational level. This initiative began in 2014 and its completion date is 2017. In addition to Ecuador, some areas in Bolivia and Peru are also reached by the project. An estimated of around 5000 farmers participated. Among the results are several local public policy proposals for food security and the generation of advocacy models at the regional, national and local levels.
