Women growing in freedom

"Women growing in freedom" is a project sponsored by the local chapter of the International CARE Organization, with funding from the Canadian Embassy in Ecuador and in cooperation with the International Center for Higher Studies for Latin America (Span. CIESPAL) and the Foundation and Cultural House of Afro-Ecuadorian Artisans (Span. OCHUN). This initiative took place between 2015 and 2016. Its main objective was to contribute to the reduction of early unions or underage girl marriages, through the empowerment and autonomy of adolescents to exercise their rights. This was achieved through the promotion of local public policies for the prevention of forced unions upon adolescents and the improvement of informative spaces for young women and men regarding regulations that allow the full exercise of their rights, among other activities. The project involved 250 young women and men, with an emphasis on those belonging to towns and populations located in rural areas. 30 community leaders also took part in the activity. The project was carried out in the following towns: Ambuquí ? Ibarra canton ? province of Imbabura; Concepción ? Mira canton ? province of Carchi; Puerto El Carmen ? Putumayo canton ? province of Sucumbíos; Zonal Administration of Calderón ? Quito canton - province of Pichincha. Among the results of this process are the adoption of an ordinance for decentralized autonomous governments "Adolescents growing in dignity and freedom for the prevention of adolescent pregnancy."
