Rescuing knowledge of indigenous agriculture in the Ecuadorian Amazon

The Rescuing knowledge of indigenous agriculture in the Ecuadorian Amazon initiative is promoted by the local chapter of the international CARE organization, funded by the Skyscrape Foundation and in collaboration with the Coordinator of Women of the Pastaza Nationality (Span. COMNAP), Ministries of Agriculture and Environmental Communities and indigenous organizations in the decentralized autonomous governments zone (parishes and municipalities). The general objective of this project that took place between 2012 and 2013 was to protect and conserve the natural and cultural wealth of the southern region of the Ecuadorian Amazon, supporting sustainable agricultural agroforestry practices that incorporate ancestral indigenous knowledge regarding the environment. In particular, it was sought to increase the use of certain practices in three indigenous communities in the Province of Morona Santiago and Pastaza and increase the income of 35 families through the sale of products that originate from the agricultural practices of the Aja Shuar. The project involved 245 people from the three communities mentioned.
