By recycling we are winning
By recycling we are winning is an initiative promoted in 2006 by the Municipal Government of San Cristóbal, along with the NGO - Institute for Development (Span. IPADE) and the Technical Office of the Galapagos National Park of the central government of Ecuador, in order to develop a management model for waste service management with a sustainable approach. This was done in order to reduce the risks posed to health and the environment by improper waste management. In a participatory way, the above mentioned entities developed the Integrated Project for Solid Waste Management and later obtained the financing of the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation (Span. AECI) to implement it. In 2007, one year after the project began, there was a positive change in the management of household waste of more than 70% of users.
