Support for artisans in Montúfar
Support for artisans in the Montúfar canton was an initiative promoted by the Esquel Foundation NGO and the Autonomous Decentralized Government of Montúfar, as part of the Economic Development Plan for a group of artisans in the canton, located in the province of Carchi (northern Ecuador). This initiative was designed to be carried out during the years 2013 and 2014 and consisted of the realization of a participatory socioeconomic diagnosis of the conditions of the artisan sector, identifying critical nodes and achievements, the definition of strategic development factors - elements that will be useful for the elaboration of the development plan. The purpose of this initiative was to promote heritage, patrimonial tourism, culture, recovery of memory, and development of the target community. The first phase focused on the diagnosis and was contemplated as a participatory instance in which the community had to take an active part in the analysis of the artisan sector, as well as in the survey of the antecedents about the participation of the community in the artisanal subject. Finally, it was sought to carry out a mapping of community organizations related to the administration, organization and operation of handicrafts and potential conflicts.
