Techo Ecuador
"Techo" arrived in Ecuador in 2008, as it was expanding throughout the Latin American region. The main objectives of this project are community development in precarious settlements, the promotion of social action and the denunciation of social exclusion of vulnerable populations. The project is carried out in three phases: the first is the evaluation of the area; the second is the participatory planning of solutions to different problems (especially related to community infrastructure), and the third phase in the implementation of said agenda. The participatory planning is carried out jointly with volunteers and citizens and is based on the results of the initial diagnosis. In the framework of this methodology and until 2017, Techo Ecuador has worked with more than 170 communities and developed permanent programs in 12. After the earthquake that hit the country in 2016, this citizen innovation built 204 emergency homes, implemented 12 community projects, and carried out an impact study to call attention to the housing needs in the country.
