Quito Decides

The platform Quito Decide is a virtual space that allows citizens to share ideas, vote for municipal initiatives and learn about the participation mechanisms through which they can actively be part of the local administration's decisions. In order to be able to use Quito Decide, citizens must register and verify their account with their personal data. On the platform, it is possible to propose ideas for new and better municipal regulations, which are put to the consideration of the Municipality of the Metropolitan District of Quito if they obtain the support of 0.25% of the population. Not only citizen ideas are put up for voting, but also some project and management proposals made by the local government. Through the platform citizens may also sign up for workshops offered at the Casas Somos Quito, which are free of charge and include topics such as basic English, ICTs, sports, urban agriculture, and crafts. Quito Decide also offers its users information to participate in volunteering and solidarity activities coordinated by municipal staff. Finally, Quito Decide facilitates the implementation of a participatory budget and makes data available for the citizen monitoring and control of social development projects. Communities may send the Zonal Administration a request form for ideas to be funded with participatory budgets and participate in decision-making on around 60% of the zonal investment funds.
