Bambito Encounters

The Bambito Encounters were meetings that took place before the electoral process of 1994. They were organized to consolidate trust in the development of the democratic process and to establish a state agenda around social development issues. Thus, before the elections were held, the Bambito Encounters I and II were organized; and later the Bambito Encounter III. The first meeting was attended by representatives of all legal political parties, the government sector, businessmen and workers, as well as the Catholic Church, the university, and the former presidents Belisario Betancur of Colombia and Julio Sanguinetti of Uruguay. In Bambito III, there was strong representation from civil society, for instance, the Women and Development Forum, APEMEP (Association of Small and Medium Producers) and CONAPIP (National Coordinator of Indigenous Peoples).
