Make Yourself Heard

Hacéte sentir (lit. Make yourself heard) is a digital space at the municipal level that is available so that young people and adolescents actively participate in the decision making of the local government. This tool is an initiative of civil society organizations in conjunction with local governments. On the digital platform, young people and adolescents can make their requests or proposals to improve their community, make them known to other adolescents and young people, receive support for their ideas and share them through social networks. Hacéte Sentir seeks to be a meeting point between the municipality and the adolescents and young people of the canton, in which it is possible to interact and promote greater communication, search for solutions and elaborate proposals. The use of this platform promotes active citizen participation, the generation of proposals and the search for collective solutions at the local level. By the end of 2016 the platform had been implemented in at least three municipalities: Curridabat, La Unión and Desamparados. In the first, there were 17 active petitions made by young people and adolescents, some of whom were supported by other participants. Among the issues raised are issues related to public transport, the service of garbage collection and others, such as bullying.

Mode of Selection of Participants: is the innovation open to all participants, access is restricted to some kind of condition, or both methods apply?

Type of participants: those who participate are individual citizens, civil society organizations, private stakeholders or a combination of those?

Decisiveness: does the innovation takes binding, non-binding or no decision at all?
